This Easter holiday Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire Oaks is inviting visitors to sink their teeth in to a brand new prehistoric-themed event with plenty of added bite.
Running until April 17th, ‘Jurassic Shark’ features a series of fun trails, events, activities and demonstrations celebrating millions of years of jaw-some evolution.
As part of the fun visitors will be able to take their own selfies inside the gigantic jaws of a prehistoric megalodon shark, dig for fossils, go on a golden egg hunt and come face to face with some real ‘living dinosaurs’.
Blue Planet Aquarium’s Phil Jones said: “Many sharks and reptiles have remained virtually unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs.
“Our Jurassic Shark event celebrates these masters of evolution and allows visitors to find out more about these amazing survivors from our distant past that continue to thrive today.
“As well as coming face to face with three-metre-long sharks and giant stingrays, visitors will also be able to find out all about our resident caiman crocodiles and lots of other reptiles including snakes and lizards on our new Reptile Trail,” he added.
There will also be daily talks on marine fossils and how to find them as well as a special ‘dino dig’, where younger visitors can hunt for their own prehistoric specimens and get the chance to take home their very own real fossil.
A fun Golden Egg Hunt will see youngsters having to track down hidden eggs around the aquarium with prizes for everyone who cracks the code, plus they will be entered in to a draw to win an annual family pass.
Sharks first appeared in our seas 350 million years ago – that’s 100 million years before the dinosaurs. Today there are over 350 different species from the 18cm spined pygmy shark to the 18-metre whale shark.
